Community.
It began in early May, 2018. Kilauea, active since 1983, began a months-long eruption on the lower east rift zone, which went on to produce a billion cubic yards of lava. Lava that transformed the landscape, covered roads and inundated some 700 homes. In the wake of the eruption, Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) found itself entirely surrounded by lava.
Working closely with our oversight partners, PGV has designed, engineered and cleared a new path to the facility. And with the help of the Kapoho Land Development Company, we were able to create access for our neighbors who have homes to the east of our facility.
Our goal is to keep you up-to-date on all the latest happenings. Please check back periodically for new updates.
PGV will host an open house and public comment meeting on June 1, 2023, to provide information on its draft Environmental Impact Statement. For more information, please visit the Environmental Impact Study page.
The next quarterly community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 4 p.m.
